Natural sheer linen curtains: distinctive features
Natural linen is filled with many amazing secrets. The fabric is strong and durable due to the fact that it is made of plant fibers. Linen fabric bears dirt-repellent and anti-static properties, although is never chemically treated. Natural fibers have a special sheen to them, which is why linen, especially jacquard weave, has a silky look.
Linen is one of the oldest materials in the world. It creates a special atmosphere that can remind us of summer and sun. It is ideal for country and vintage styles.
Linen voile curtains can completely change the style of a living room or bedroom, adding natural feel and elegance to the interior. This natural fabric is very practical. Dust and dust mites cannot accumulate on its’ surface – good quality linen curtains do not attract those at all. This is a good solution not only for people with allergies, but also for people who love nature. Discover this new way of decorating your windows!
Linen curtains made to measure
Made to measure linen curtains are the perfect curtains for your windows. You won’t run into the problem of having long linen curtains that need to be shortened at a special shop. And you also won't need to worry about your new linen curtains shrinking after the first wash. We make all curtains according to the dimensions you specify and consider the shrinkage for each specific fabric we work with. You will receive curtains that are slightly larger, so that after washing and shrinking the curtains will be of the dimensions you need. Some curtains, such as Roman linen blinds, are made using pre-washed fabric to avoid any changes in size. Linen fabric is a natural material that stretches, so we always warn our customers about up to 2 cm size discrepancy.
At Varvara Home you can choose the desired thickness and color of the fabric, as well as the curtain type you like. After that, you need to specify the desired dimensions and optionally write a comment to your order.
It normally takes us 2 to 3 weeks to complete the order - it mostly depends on the workload of the sewing workshop and the complexity of the order. We encourage all customers to order fabric samples before placing an actual order, especially for color curtains. Curtains made to order are non-returnable, and we ask that you carefully measure and list the sizes.
Color choosing tips for linen curtains
Window décor should fit the overall design and look you desire to create.
- White linen curtains are a classic choice and will always be in style. They radiate calmness, lightness, brightness and freshness. With them any room will seem larger and the ceilings will feel higher. White linen curtains are neutral and will go with any lifestyle. White color enlarges the space and helps in setting the accents.
- Grey linen curtains are in fashion today as well. They look modest and neutral. Grey can be used as an elegant backdrop to highlight other colors in the interior.
- Linen curtains of natural colors mix perfectly with various textures, like wood, clay, warm shades of stone. Curtains of natural colors come in a variety of tones, from beige to taupe. It should be noted that this natural color shows up according to the growing conditions of the plant, the amount of sun and rain the plant received. Those factors influence the final color of natural linen fabric. Natural thread mélange-weave curtains will look very beautiful and noble.
- Beige linen curtains will allow you to combine old designs with new trends. With this, you can create something very unique - a mixture of nostalgia and zeitgeist. If you want to add a southern flair to your home, look no further than terracotta curtains.
- Black linen curtains look very stylish and formal, great for reserved interiors. It should be remembered that black curtains will darken the room well, but they will not completely block out daylight like blackout curtains do.
- Blue linen curtains look great in many arrangements. Navy blue striped curtains will fit perfectly in a room with white walls and furniture, with blue or dark blue accessories. Nautical style of the interior can be emphasized by festive photos in white or dark blue frames and with decorative shells. Dark blue curtains in Scandinavian style will contrast perfectly with white walls and wood-paneled floors.
- Pink linen curtains are the embodiment of romance, tenderness and grace. Pink can be both warm and cold, creating different interior moods. It's an extremely emotional color - a palette of shades that ranges from the pale color of a withering rose to deliciously rich coral tones. So, if you want to decorate your windows with pink curtains, the choice options will be very plentiful!
Sheer linen curtains made of the finest linen fabric will look very soft and airy. These curtains can be combined with heavyweight opaque linen curtains or used on their own. With loops and romantic ties, linen veils will look traditional and will help you create the style of a country house.

Roman blinds are recommended for smaller windows and are best suited for kitchens and bathrooms. Transparent roller blinds can let diffused light in and also big amounts of light through. Opaque roller blinds do not only provide privacy but also block out light.
Linen curtains: proper care
Linen fibers are very delicate and sensitive to aggressive detergents, so linen fabrics should never be bleached with chlorine. If you use washing machine, reserve to the delicate cycle and do not load the washing machine to the fullest. Long linen curtains are heavy and take up a lot of space when wet. It is better to wash them using manual mode and spin cycle them at low speeds. We do not recommend tumble drying.
The washing temperature should not exceed 40 degrees Celsius. Use liquid detergents. The fabric may shrink a little after the first wash, but it will not after that. Washed linen curtains are better to be air-dried and also are to be straightened before you hang them to dry.
Linen curtains must be ironed at maximum temperatures while they are still damp. And you should not overly dry them. Overdried curtains can only be smoothed out with moistening and steaming.
Linen voile and linen lace curtains should be washed in special laundry bags to avoid damaging the delicate fabric and trim.
Proper care is the key to the many years of beauty of your textiles. It is a noble natural product and proper care is extremely important.
